Mango melona soju cocktail with melona popsicle sticking out

This cute and fruity mango melona soju cocktail is an easy way to mix together two staple Korean goodies - melona ice cream bars and soju - into one fun drink. This drink is a party favourite! It's quick to throw together, looks super cute with the popsicle sticking out, and is a little bit interactive.

The mango melona melts into the soju drink to make it creamy and full of fruity mango flavour. This cocktail tastes like mango candy and I promise it'll become one of your favourites too.

    What is melona?

Melona is a Korean fruit-flavoured ice cream bar manufactured by Binggrae. It's known for its original melon flavour and its distinctive rectangular shape. Melona bars taste like a cross between soft serve ice cream and a popsicle. They're soft and creamy in light fruit flavours that aren't too sweet.

    What is soju?

Soju is a Korean rice-based distilled alcohol sold in distinctive green bottles. Jinro, the largest manufacturer of soju, makes soju in many fruity flavours. These are super popular because they're delicious and easy to make mixed drinks with. I've used the apple mango flavoured soju in this recipe to pair with the mango melona.

How to make a mango melona soju cocktail

Making this mango melona soju drink is super easy. Just add equal parts mango soju and a fizzy drink like Sprite or 7-Up to a glass with some ice. Then, stir in a mango melona bar until it melts into the drink.

    Variations on this recipe

Melona: You can use any melona flavour you'd like as long as you coordinate with the soju flavour accordingly. The honeydew melon and mango flavours are probably the most popular and most common ones you'll find. You may also be able to find banana, strawberry, coconut, and purple yam melona flavours. Strawberry melona would go really well with my strawberry soju cocktail made with strawberry soju and strawberry calpico.

Soju: Almost all of the fruit flavoured soju varieties taste great and really smell and taste like what they're meant to be. In this soju mixed drink, mango soju is obviously the perfect pairing for mango melona but feel free to get creative with other combinations.

Some possible melona and soju combination ideas:

    • Strawberry melona + citron soju
    • Strawberry melona + yogurt soju
    • Melon melona + grape soju
    • Mango melona + peach soju

Note: I have not tried the above combinations so try at your own risk but playing around with the combinations is half the fun!

Sprite: You can use any fizzy, light tasting soda like Sprite or 7-Up. You can use sparkling water but it just won't be as sweet. If you omit this altogether, the drink will be much stronger since there will only be soju which you may or may not prefer.
