This post was sponsored by Amarula Cream Liqueur to help bring a taste of Africa to your home. All opinions and experiences are my own. Please enjoy responsibly.

Sweet and creamy Amarula Cream Liqueur adds a unique flavour of the Marula fruit to this iced coconut latte for a refreshing and dreamy drink.

The subtle nuttiness of coconut pairs beautifully with the smooth taste of Amarula. If you've never tried this combination before, it's a must. If you use full-fat coconut milk, which is what I prefer, you end up with an indulgent and creamy latte that you'll think about again and again.

    What is Amarula?

Amarula is a velvety cream liqueur with a hint of toffee, vanilla and long-lasting finish from the Marula fruit.

Unlike Irish cream liqueurs, that are often Irish whiskey blended with cream, Amarula is fruit-based, with its spirit derived from the Marula tree, which grows wild in subequatorial regions of Africa - the only place on the entire planet where they can be found.

The trees bear fruit just once a year at the end of Africa’s summer. The scent of the Marula fruit attracts elephants from the surrounding areas who come to feast on the fruit, inspiring the shape of the African elephant's tusks sculpted into the sides of the bottle.

The Marula fruit is picked from these trees, fermented, and distilled in copper stills to convert it into a spirit. Then, it's aged in French oak barrels for two years before blending with cream.

How to enjoy Amarula on ice

I'd encourage you to indulge in Amarula by itself on ice first to understand how the taste of this unique fruit cream liqueur can transform a cocktail, warm or iced beverage, or a dessert once added.

Look: Pour Amarula into a glass without ice. Watch as the stream of caramel-coloured cream fills your glass.

Smell: Inhale the notes of warm caramel, vanilla, and Marula spirit.

Sip & Savour: Add a cube of ice and swirl the glass to chill your Amarula. Sip and savour the perfect balance of Marula spirit, cask, and cream.

How to use Amarula in an iced coconut latte

Fill your favourite glass full with ice. Pour in coconut milk over ice. Top with espresso from an espresso machine or espresso powder. If using espresso powder, mix 1-2 teaspoons (depending on how strong you like it) of espresso powder with 2 oz hot water.

    Where to buy Amarula?

Amarula Cream Liqueur can be found in liquor stores in your area. In BC, it's readily available at BC Liquor Stores in 50mL, 375mL, 750mL, and 1140mL sizes. Look for a tall, brown, sculpted bottle with a gold tassel around the neck of the bottle.

This season, Amarula makes a beautiful gift or use it yourself to make your desserts extra special during the holidays. Enjoy Amarula with loved ones to elevate your coffee, cocktail, and dessert recipes this holiday. Good friends gift wine, great friends gift Amarula.
